So You Think You Can Dance 5: Karla & Vitolio Leave

I’m very sad to announce that this week on So You Think You Can Dance, the two dancers who had to go home were Vitolio & Karla. I have especially grown fond of Vitolio, with his story of courage and his kindness during the competition. It’s a very unfortunate thing that he has to leave. Karla is also a wonderful dancer and will be missed.

The judges this week on So You think You Can Dance were, of course Mary Murphy & Nigel Lythgoe, but also included Mia Michaels. The level of dance this season is at an all-time high, in my opinion. It is impossible to predict the final dancers this soon.

Here’s an amazing photo of Ade Obayomi & Melissa Sandvig performing a Pas de Deux choreographed by Thordal Christensen. This is the prfect style for them both!

Last night on So You Think You Can Dance, the top 16 dancers took the stage in what is turning out to be one of the toughest competition season for the show yet. They are all so amazing! The guest judge this week was Toni Basil and she added her own particular style of input to the judging.

For me, the top performance of the night was the rumba performed by Ade & Melissa. It was so hot I felt like I needed a cigarette afterward…and I’ve never smoked!

Mia Michaels came through yet again with a very memorable routine that revolved around Evan admiring Randi’s behind. Nigel kept saying things about it, then pausing to say, “but…and there is a butt.”
It was a very nice routine and the judges had a lot of fun with it.

This week the Top 18 Dancers performed on So You Think You Can Dance. The level of talent this season seems to be much higher than previous seasons. All the dancers are amazing. It’s going to be hard to see anyone go. The guest judge this week was Lil C and he is always fun. He has the most interesting commentary each time!

The first pair to dance was Randi & Evan. They danced a jive that was choreographed by Dancing With the Stars pro dancer Louis Van Amstel. He’s fantastic on the ballroom floor, so it was no surprise that he brought a wonderful routine for them to do.
I loved the performance! They have the perfect personalities for the jive and they did a great job at it.

So You Think You Can Dance 5: Wednesday is Vegas Callback Night
June 2, 2009 by Lynn

Tomorrow night is the Las Vegas callback episode of So You Think You Can Dance. They had a record number of dancers that went through to Vegas this time and I know it’s going to be a really amazing episode. Then on Thursday evening, we’ll find out who will be the top 20 dancers this season.
The auditions for season 6 are underway and my friend Betsy ran into SYTYCD judge Mary Murphy in a pub in Boston the other day. You can go read what she has to say about Mary on her blog. It seems that Mary is every bit as sweet in person as she seems on TV.
Here are some extraordinary photos from the auditions for season 5:

So You Think You Can Dance: Mary Murphy
May 27, 2009 by Lynn
The Hot Tamale Train is on its way to the station again tonight!
That’s because there’s a new episode of So You Think You Can Dance on. (Can you tell that I’m excited?)
In this clip, SYTYCD judge Mary Murphy tells us why being a part of the show is so meaningful to her and what it has doe to open up the world to dance. She talks about how difficult it is to learn a brand new genre of dance and how especially tough it is for the dancers to do it every single week while they are on the show:
So You Think You Can Dance: The Return of “Sex”!
May 24, 2009 by Lynn
No, it’s nothing nasty, it’s just that delusional guy that calls himself Sex and doesn’t have a clue that he can’t dance. If you’ve watched any of the previous seasons of So You Think You Can Dance and saw the auditions, you know who I’m talking about. What a loser! (But I have to admit that he’s pretty funny to watch…)
In this clip, Mary Murphy & Nigel Lythgoe sit down with TV Guide’s Matt Mitovich to talk about the show and this new season. Nigel says that when Sex showed up this time, he was sick of telling the guy to leave because he wouldn’t believe he can’t dance. So they put him through to the choreography round. Now, this I have to see! Get ready for comedy!
So You think You Can Dance 5: Cat Deely & Mary Murphy Talk About What it Takes
Here’s another preview clip for the 5th season of So You Think You Can Dance. In this one, host Cat Deeley and judge Mary Murphy talk about just how difficult the competition is for the dancers.
Mary says that even though she has danced all her life, she was overwhelmed by how hard it was to learn African dance…learning a new dance style is tough enough, but to learn a new one each week must be incredibly hard!

So You Think You Can Dance Season 5 Promo Clip
You don’t know how exciting this is to me. I love all the dance reality shows, but my very favorite one will always be So You Think you Can Dance. It’s the one that gets me the most excited about watching and it’s about to begin again when season 5 premieres on May 21. I absolutely cannot wait!!!
In this first promotional clip for SYTYCD season 5, Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgoe and Cat Deeley all talk about what they hope to see int his season and we get a glimpse of some of the amazing dancers who waited in line to try out. Choreographer Adam Shankman also weighs in on why the show gets better each season. Check it out:
So You Think You Can Dance Auditions Have Begun
November 19, 2008 by Lynn
I am so excited that the So You Think You Can Dance auditions have begun. It’s one of my all-time favorite shows and just to know that it will be back this year with another incredible season has a smile on my face.
Here’s a sneak peek at the New York auditions. It looks like some “interesting” characters as well as some very talented people were there to try out. Mary Murphy and Cat Deeley also give us a bit of insight into what the judges are looking for and how they choose the dancers.
