Dancing With the Stars 6: Marlee Matlin Leaves

This is the saddest elimination for me this season. I was so enjoying watching the fantastic things that Marlee Matlin was able to accomplish on the dance floor, despite being profoundly deaf. She’s truly an inspiration and most certainly serves as a role model for anyone who feels that they are limited in what they can do. Marlee never seemed to feel that she was unable to do anything a hearing dancer could do. I love that about her.
She will be missed on this show. But I know we haven’t seen the last of her and the amazing things she shows us she can do. Great job this season, Marlee! We love you!
And my hat is also off to the producers of Dancing With the Stars for having the courage and intelligence to cast differently-abled persons on this show. I love it that you help everyone to see that our biggest limitations are those we put on ourselves.

I was watching Marlee dance not only for her steps on the floor but for the inspiration in learning Sign Language myself. I find ASL (American sign language) to be as expressive in thought and emotion as dancing can be across the floor. It’s a shame the voters/viewers weren’t as interested. I am also happy with the footage shown as the cameraman was nice enough to pull back to let the viewer see what Marlee’s response to questions (Dancing with the Stars’ camera blocking cut off much of what she was saying in lieu of her face and the translator’s voice). Mrs. Matlin proved you don’t need a voice to be heard or music to dance. Two thumbs up!
