I love to watch dance on TV almost as much as I love to dance. There’s just nothing more wonderful and joyful than moving to music. And even if one can’t do the dancing, watching it is nearly as much fun. And of all the reality dance shows on TV, mypersonal favorite has always been and still is So You Think You Can Dance.
It’s created by the same people who created American Idol and the competitors are just as talented and passionate as the Idol competitors. It’s been my summer addiction since its beginning and now it’s nearly time for its premiere once again. To get us ready for the new season, FOX network has just published these photos from the auditions for the show.

Congratulations to pro dancing hunk, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, for being named TV Guide’s choice for the sexiest professional dancer on TV! I don’t know why there was even a question….he’s always been one of the sexiest two (including Tony Dovolani) on TV, in my opinion! I say, viva the open-front shirts! And I look forward to seeing him back on Dancing With the Stars, hopefully next season! Here are all the nominees for the distinction:
SEXIEST DANCING PRO
- Cheryl Burke
- Maksim Chmerkovskiy — Winner
- Tony Dovolani
- Derek Hough
- Julianne Hough
Congratulations, Maks!!

This week was a tough one on Dancing With the Stars. We saw Christián de la Fuente injure his arm during a dance routine and after tests and x-rays, he decided to continue in the competition.
But then, a surprising thing happened. Shannon Elizabeth was eliminated from teh competition. I was surprised that Christián wasn’t eliminated because of the injury, but with the remaining dancers all being so good, it’s anyone’s week to go home every time now.
It was good to see how much she grew as a dancer this season and I really do suspect that she and Derek Hough have developed some sort of romantic feelings….
It’s a shame to see her gone, and I wish her all the best!

This week, on Step It Up & Dance, the dancers were asked to do several very demanding numbers from the Braodway musical Damn Ynakees. Guest this week was actor Jason Alexander who co-produced the play on Broadway. He brought his choreographer with him and together they challenged the dancers to learn some pretty tough routines and perform them.
Here are some clips from the episode this week:
The rehearsals and performances this week were extremely demanding and the dancers were having trouble keeping up. Cody came through once again like a superstar and won immunity for next week. I think he’s a sure-thing for the finals, don’t you?
Since Miguel had immunity from last week, he knew he wasn’t going home, but it’s a good thing for him because he was put into the elimination team. With him were Michael & Oscar. It was a tough performance for these three guys. So tough, in fact, that they were asked by the judges whether they wanted to do it a second time. They decided to overcome their differences off the stage and do the number again.
When it all came down, Oscar was told to do his last dance. I was a bit sad to see Oscar go home. He touched my heart this season since he is so devoted to his mother who has cancer and said that he was in the competition to win money to help in her treatment. He’s also a very talented dancer, so it was a shame to see him struggle so much this week.

My contact at People.com just let me know about the most fun & snarky Dancing With the Stars reviewer anywhere. It’s Griffin Matthews and he has a weekly opinion video about the DWTS performers and dances. I laughed and smiled through the whole video for this week. I love him! If you want to enjoy his witty observations about the dancers’ costumes and the judges’ quotes, you really have to go check it out on People.com. His commentary is called I Heart DWTS. Thank you, Griffin!

Karina Smirnoff shows us how professional dancers stay in such amazingly good shape. Here, she show some of her fitness moves to Hollywood 411’s Marc Istook. She also tells us how to eat right for maximum health. She says to eat 5 or 6 small meals a day and focus heavily on the greens, especially spinach. Watching her, I feel so VERY out of shape!

TV Guide recently got to sit down and ask Elizabeth Berkley about her new show on Bravo called Step It Up & Dance. She tells why she chose to get involved with the show and what sets it apart from the oter dance reality shows out there right now. She says that “dance is joyful” and it’s great to bring some joy to our lives these days, more than ever. Here’s the interview:

This week on Step It Up & Dance, the dancers found out that they would have to learn to learn to make their own rhythm and music using props like a broom or a garbage can lid. Of course, there to teach them (and to judge) were the creator and dancers of the fabulous dance team, Stomp Out Loud.
Miguel proved to have the best natural rhythm of them all and won immunity for nxt week. Tovah had the most difficult time of them all trying to learn to dance like Stomp.
I think it’s a bit sad that Tovah was sent home, since she had all those years of ballet training, yet never really got to show her real technique. None of the challenges suited her talents.
But I love the show. The quality of dancing is amazing and I like the originality of some of the challenges.

This season on The Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search, Lil was looking for the sixth member of her traveling group of singers and dancers called The Traveling Coyotes.
Some of the women in the competition seemed ill-suited for the gig, one decided she didn’t want the job and left and others just didn’t have the performing chops to carry their part of the group. It all came down to two very talented girls, Ashley & Sarah and Lil chose Sarah to join the group.
Congratulations, Sarah!
